I don’t know when exactly, but I got the idea a long time ago to take photos of the different manhole / sewer covers that I encountered on my travels. One led to two and then I had a bunch. I think they are pretty damn cool, but I’ll let you judge for yourself. If you have any cool manhole / sewer covers or goolies (DE) from your town, think about sending them my way and I’ll make sure they show up here, and I’ll be sure to give credit where it is due.

Czech Republic, Prague-The city seal shows three towers that represnt the three cities that united in 1784 to make Prague. The arm with the sword was added after Prague defended the Charles Bridge from the Swedes in the Thirty Years War

Koblenz, Germany-Koblenz’s manhole covers show the famous Spitting Boy Fountain. The Spitting Boy represent the city’s disdain for foreigners as Spitting John is the bastard son of an invading soldier

The coat of arms of Cologne shows three crowns for the Three Kings whose bones are said to be kept in the Cologne Cathedral
Mainz, Germany-The City seal shows two wheels, the Archbisop of Mainz was said to be the “Driver of God’s Chariot”
